Blåvandshuk lighthouse
We have been travelling to Blåvand in Denmark for over 30 years and never get tired of photographing the “Blåvandshuk Fyr” lighthouse. From every perspective, from near or far. There is never a holiday where it does not serve as a motif. At the foot of the lighthouse on the beach, you can find people with their heads down every day. No, they are not looking at their mobile phones, nor are they looking for shells. They are looking for amber, called “rav” in Danish. The chances of going home without amber are slim. I’ve never had a day where I didn’t find anything. Blåvandshuk Fyr is a white, angular lighthouse, which you don’t see that often and makes it particularly beautiful in my eyes. I’ve also been up there and climbed the 170 steps to the viewing platform (even though I’m afraid of heights!). You have a great view of the sea and the whole town. The lighthouse is 39 metres high and is the most westerly lighthouse in Denmark on the west coast of Jutland: The beacon has a height of 55 metres, but we don’t want to be that petty. Originally, the lens was driven by a clockwork mechanism, but the light source and lens drive have now been electrified and the beacon works automatically.
