During my school years I noticed that I could do something that was not easy for the others – drawing. At least I was a little better, but not a high-flyer. I drew mainly with a pencil, which gave me confidence. I found colours difficult to control and felt a little “colourblind”. I copied a lot from artists I admired (mainly comic and graphic artists). From this I developed my own pictures, changing them until they hardly had anything in common with the original. And I always drew by feel. At some point, YouTube videos in which artists explained how to achieve certain effects or where you could simply look over the artists’ shoulders while drawing became popular. I was inspired by that and bought Polychromos coloured pencils. The special thing about these pencils is that you can work the colours into each other on the paper so that very beautiful, smooth gradients can be created. This is how I dared to venture into the world of colours. Later I added watercolour and acrylic. In my current pictures I combine a lot of these three media.
And my inspiration? Sometimes I read something and images, shapes, sketches appear in my head that I like to put on paper. Sometimes I dream and try to capture the dream in my pictures. Sometimes I see works of art by other artists and try to follow that direction, but something completely different and new emerges that was not planned at all. I just let myself be surprised these days.
