Red Lotus

The “Red Lotus” is one of my favourite pictures. The format is 50 x 70 cm, technique: monotype. Creation: March 2017

I made the picture in monotype. This is a “mixture” of drawing, printing and painting. I love this technique, which I have been using since around 2016.
I am particularly moved by the motif of the lotus flower and have created it in a wide variety of sizes and colours. Some pictures could be seen from Oct. 2017 to Feb. 2018 in the Buddhist Centre Essen and an exhibition of many pictures on the theme “The lotus – its delicacy and beauty” took place from May – July 2018 in the Buddhist Gate Berlin.
For me, the lotus is a symbol of “growth”, beauty of ethical life and a symbol of “beautiful friendship”, kalyana mitrata. I also find the following poem by Galway Kinnell fitting:
“The bud stands for everything,
even for those things that do not bloom,
for everything blooms, from itself, from inner happiness,
though sometimes it is necessary to teach
a thing again its loveliness,
to lay a hand on a flower’s forehead,
to tell it with words and touches,
how beautiful it is,
until it blooms again of itself, out of inner happiness.”
