Violetta

I actually had no concept for this picture. It was supposed to be a portrait with an unusual hairstyle, perhaps even a hair colour that wasn’t quite everyday. As I always admired Frida Kahlo’s headdress, I also wanted flowers to adorn her hair, but a little more discreetly than Frida’s. In the course of drawing, Violetta’s hairstyle reminded me of that of a geisha, so I added a few Japanese hairpins (kanzashi). Background in white? No, that was boring… So I decided to place a mandala-like ornamental disc filled with colourful nature motifs behind Violetta’s head. All in all, “Violetta” is a thank you to a colourful, lively, crazy, warm and beautifully scented summer.
